Selling & buying tracks is in fact coproducing!

Text: Marceline Geelen

It’s common knowledge that two heads are better than one.
From that perspective, making a track successful is up to the composer (the seller) as well as the user (buyer).
One needs the other and you both profit!
 Consider the whole process as
a coproduction - even though you never spoke or met.
Have you ever thought about looking at it that way?

You might be one of those talented producers who sell tracks to interested buyers of all sorts.
Or maybe you’re one of those DJ’s, advertisers or filmmakers who acquire one of those tracks.
Important to realize in either case, is the fact that you both profit from the construction we provide.
That way both parties gain from it becoming successful.

Both profit!

How does this work exactly?
Well, in fact, you’re partners in a co-production that contains not only the track but can be considered a total package.
After all: composing a great track is only the start.
Subsequently, the production needs to be distributed, maybe by a well-renowned label.
A buyer might have a much more elaborate network for distribution than a seller.
Or they might be a promotional hero on social media like Facebook, Tumbler, Twitter or Instagram, whereas the seller is possibly only interested in composing music and not in public relations.

Revenue

The revenue depends on the rights that are acquired from a purchased track. A track can either be fully royalty-free or a track can be sold while the original producer keeps the revenue generated by royalties.
If a production is fully royalty-free. The producer will receive a one-time payment after which all right will be transferred to the buyer of the track.
One can not function without the other.
Therefore it’s a win-win situation for both!
