Tip: Find out what genre sells best!
On a regular basis House of Tracks offers Tips & Tricks for sellers of (ghost) productions. This week: find out what genre sells best.
Most dance producers like to compose different types of music, e.g. electronica and deep house or techno and tech house. Since the dance industry is a dynamic industry, the popularity of these genres changes over time. For those who want to make a living out of producing dance music, it’s of the essence to stay on top of trends and produce – within their favorites – the genre that’s hip and happening. You can read a little more about it in our blog Stay on top of trends. ”Ten years ago the average BPM for a track was 131 - these days this is generally considered way too fast and the average has come to 128 BPM. The same goes for naming genres.”
Be aware of trends
If you’re well aware of this, you can still do what you love to do, but make even more efficiently money with it. It’s also very important how you name your genre. Techno in the early nineties was totally different than what we call techno nowadays. So, consider this as well.
On our site, you can easily see what genres we have decided on. We started out with only a few general genres, e.g. techno, tech house, drum ‘n bass and electronica. By now we have expanded this spectrum. Now you are able to upload your ghost productions in over 20 (!) different genres. If you doubt about what genre applies most to your music, check out the landing pages on the bottom of our site. Each genre is explained in those articles.
